With Mother.
娘の馬は結構いたずらっ子で、速足でした。私の馬はのんびりマイペース型。とっとこと前を行く娘とだんだん距離が離れていくのでハラハラしました。川を横切るところはインストラクターが先頭で見守る中、一人ずつ。全員渡りきってインストラクターが目を離した途端、娘の馬が後戻りして川の中へ！私の馬は一歩も動かず。娘は馬に止まるように懇願。私は馬に動くように懇願。どちらもいうことを聞かず。インストラクターは振り返って、いやいやすぐ戻るからと悠長に構えています。しかし馬が川下に向かい出したので、戻ってきて声をかけました。すると、馬はすぐにUターン。馬の中での序列は、インストラクター→馬→私たち、orz。何だか私はいつも遅い馬に当たるような気がしていましたが、馬に詳しい人に聞くと無意識のうちに何か合図を出しているのかもしれないと。確かに馬のお腹を膝で締めているかもと思いました。馬のお腹って結構太いのです。
My daughter’s horse was kind of naughty and wanted to walk fast. My horse wanted to take it easy and slow. The distance between us got bigger and bigger as we went, and made us both nervous. When we came to a river, the instructor stood by and watched over us crossing it one by one. After everyone crossed over and the instructor turned around, her horse turned and got back into the river! My horse wouldn’t move. I begged my horse to follow her. She begged her horse to turn back. None of us had any luck. The instructor turned back but just watched, saying the horse would be back soon. But when the horse started going down the river, he came back to the riverside and talked to the horse. Her horse immediately turned back and joined the group. The hierarchy for the horses was; Instructor -> horses -> me and my daughter, :( I happened to get slow-paced horses most of the times. When I mentioned this to a horse-riding expert, she said I might be giving some instructions unintentionally. I might have squeezed horses flanks with my knees. The horses have rather big bellies.
