健康的な朝食をいただいた後は近くのお寺へ朝の散歩。
お寺には珍しい鳥居をくぐります。
After a healthy breakfast, a morning walk to a nearby temple.
Kind of unique, a temple with Torii, a gateway usually to a shinto shrine.
朝、まだ９時前だと言うのにかなり蒸し暑く、
境内に入る時に霧シャワーのサービス付き。
It was already quite muggy, even just before 9 am.
The temple treated visitors mist shower after going through the gate.
何故だか、門を守るネコ属が三匹もいました。
For some reason, there were three cats, guarding the gates.
白砂の庭園はありませんが、線香の灰に海原を見ます。
No white-sand garden, but incense ash was raked attentively
to represent ripples of water.
六時礼拝堂と亀池。電信柱がなんとなく雑多な日本景色の名残を思わせます。
6-o'clock prayer house and a turtle pond. The power pole represented
a good old kind-of-messy Japanese scenery.
創建は593年と伝えられる歴史のある日本仏法最初の官寺、四天王寺です。
残念ながら宝物殿と極楽浄土の庭は閉まってました。
The original temple was said to be established in 593, the first state-sponsored
Buddhist temple in Japan. A truly historic site, Shitennoji. Regrettably, the
treasury and the garden of paradise were closed for public.
ホテルに荷物を取りに行くと、フロントのスタッフが台風接近を教えてくれました。
予約の確認に電話を入れましたが、これがなかなか繋がりません。ようやく繋がった
かと思うと、たどたどしい日本語の応対。それは仕方がありませんが、出発時間の
確認をしたいと再三言っているにも関わらず、相手のお姉さんは長々と私の予約の
詳細を読み上げます。早く出発したいのですけど。英語に切り替えてもまだ
ぎこちない。これも仕方ありませんけど、急いでいる時には焦ります。
「格安航空券購入の際は、何事にも倍の時間の余裕を持って行動すること」
という貴重な教訓を得た朝でした。ようやく定刻出発というお言葉を
いただいて、ホテルを出ました。
Went back to the hotel to pick up my suitcase. The staff kindly informed me of
typhoon closing in. Made a call to my reservation number to confirm the departure
time. It took some time to get an available staff to answer. Finally, a person answered
in somehow clumsy Japanese. This was understandable. However, I mentioned a few
times that I just needed the departure time, she kept reading on my reservation details.
I had a train to catch... I switched to English, but, the answers were still a bit
awkward. This was also to be expected. Still quite frustrating, when in a hurry.
A moral of the day was "when dealing with a low-cost airline, must act well
in advance." Finally, she declared that the flight was scheduled to
depart on time and I was able to leave the hotel.
大阪と言えば、ハリーポッター（？）昨年遊びにいきました。
Osaka is about Harry Potter (?) Last year, we went to see them.
ジェットコースターには酔いましたが、楽しかった〜
Got a little quesy on a roller coaster, still so much fun!
一応時間に余裕をみて予定を立てていたので、電話に時間を取られてもなお
ちゃんと時間前に空港につけました。札幌行き、定時発です。(^^)v
I did plan with plenty of time, so made it to the airport well in advance, despite
the unexpected long phone call. The flight to Sapporo, due to depart on time, ✌
ボツボツと雨が降り始め、
Started to rain.
搭乗は傘をさして。
Boarding the plane with an umbrella.
台風に追いつかれまいと雲の上。
Above the clouds, leaving the typhoon behind.
無事札幌に到着。揺れもせず平和な１本目。餃子とラーメンで早めの夕食。
Arrived at Sapporo safely, after a problem-free flight.
Early dinner, gyoza and noodles.
外の展望台に出て見ますと、深い霧が地平線を隠し、荒涼たる風が肌に寒いこと。
まさかと思いつつ持っていた上着が役立ちました。
Went to the observation platform outside. A deep fog closed off the view
and a bleak wind felt rather cold on my skin. Didn't expect to use it
but prepared just in case, I thankfully put on my jacket.
さてここから乗る飛行機。プロペラ機！

早くチェックインしたおかげか、プロペラの見える窓際という特等席。
深い霧をくぐり抜け、再び雲の上。
Scored the special seat by the window, with a view of one of the propellers.
It's worth checking in early. Climbed up through a deep fog,
and above the clouds again.
大雪山（多分）の頂と北海道のかなたに沈む夕日。
Mt. Daisetu (maybe, possibly), the highest peaks in Hokkaido, and the sunset.
翼よ、あれが女満別の灯だ。
We made it, my dear propellers.
Those are the lights of Memanbetsu.
お迎えの車に乗せていただき、いざ知床へ。空港から出た途端、郷愁の念。道路の
広さがニュージーランド並です。走っていてそれほど恐ろしくありません。
ここだったら運転できるかもしれません。日はとっぷりと暮れて
いましたが、狐数匹と梟一羽目撃。海は見えませんでしたが、
微かな潮の香りに迎えられてお宿につきました。
北海道生活の始まりです。
Boarded the car waiting for me, and to Shiretoko, here I came. Once leaving the airport,
roads evoked nostalgia in me, nearly as wide as New Zealand ones. It wasn't so scary.
I might be able to drive here. The sun was long gone, but we spotted several foxes
and an owl on the way. The ocean was hidden in the darkness, yet caught
a whiff of marine scent before entering my new apartment.
Thus, my Hokkaido life begins.
