July 2017, White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla), with its distinguished white tail.
One of the protected species in Japan. So graceful in riding
an updraft then gliding down along the cliffs.
October 2017, I thought this was a pygmy woodpecker.
But this might be female lesser spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos minor).
December 2017, Most likely Brown Shrike (Lanes crostatas), bright rufous above,
with wider white frontal band merging with broad white supercilium, strongly
contrasting jet-black mask, orange-tinged below. One of the endangered species.
Walking through a bush alone and thinking there was not a bird in sight,
this one flew into my view. It was a hard task keeping him in the frame
while he zigzagged among the branches.
February 2018, I glimpsed a red spot on the head, so this should be
male great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major).
March 2018, Steller's sea eagle (Haliaeetus pelagicus). One of the endangered species.
They like to pick up leftovers. This one was perched
on top of a tree near a ham processing factory.
