三日目はお寺巡りの一日です。立派な山門をくぐりまして、堂々たる法堂の前で
お参りをし、境内を奥に進みます。頭上に見えるレンガ作りのアーチは
琵琶湖から、こちらの京都市に水をいただいています。
The third day, a day to walk and visit the temples. Through the big temple gate, pay
respects in front of the impressive lecture hall, then follow the path further inside.
The arch high above is a part of Lake Biwa Canal. Kyoto city gets water from the
biggest lake in Japan, Lake Biwa, situated in the next prefecture, Shiga-ken.
奥にちょっとした木立がありまして、涼しい木陰の散歩を楽しめます。
Right at the back, there is a path you can enjoy a stroll under
a cool canopies of leafy trees.
ここまでは南禅寺。At Nanzen Temple.
お次は高台から京都市内を一望。見事な盆地地形の京都はぐるりと山に囲まれて
います。ちょっと登るとすぐに眼下に広がる街の眺めを楽しめます。
Next, looking down the city from an observation deck. Kyoto is built in a round basin,
surrounded by mountains in almost all directions. It is very easy
to find a great view point after a short climb.
池のほとりで一休み。隣接の幼稚園生たちも木陰で一休み。
Taking a break by a pond. Children from the kindergarten next door
to this temple are having a break under trees too.
ここまでは永観堂。At Eikando
そしてお待ちかねのおやつ。Now, a long-awaited snack time.
娘はかき氷、息子はパフェ。Shaved ice for my daughter, parfait for my son.
私は和風にわらび餅と冷たいほうじ茶。
Japanese traditional snack for me, warabi-mochi and cold Japanese brown tea.
最後のお寺は銀閣寺として知られていますが、正式名称は東山慈照寺。
方丈に上がって白砂で波と小山をあつらえた庭を眺められます。
The last temple for the day is commonly known as Ginkaku-ji (Silver Pavilion), but the
official name is Higashiyama Jisho Temple. From the abbot's chamber, you can admire
the courtyard, with a little mountain surrounded by waves made of white sand.
見事な生垣に脇を固められた風流な出口。
Even the exit is made elegantly, with tall well-groomed hedges on both sides.
目いっぱい歩いた一日の締め括りはゆっくりと夕食。京都で洋食はちょっと違反な気も
しますが、寿司の他はうどんもそばも苦手な娘のために前夜に見つけておいた
レストランです。 伝統的なヨーロッパ風のインテリアがお洒落。惜しむらくは
サービスはヨーロッパ基準には及ばず。かわいそうなウェイトレスさんは
メニューのお品の確認のため、私たちとシェフの間を往復すること数回。
客が私達だけでしたので、中断されなかったのは救いでしたが。
メニュー問題が解決され、料理が運ばれた後は、それぞれ
好みの夕食を堪能できました。
The last stop for the day, after walking the walk, is a leisurely dinner. My daughter loves
sushi above all things, but not so keen on udon (Japanese thick rice noodle) or soba
(backwheet noodle). So, though non-Japanese dinner in Kyoto sounds a little odd, I
managed to find this restaurant for her the night before. The decor is in traditional
European style and elegant. Unfortunately, the service isn't up to the European
standard. The poor misinformed waitress comes and goes between us and
the chef to check the menu a few times. Fortunately, we are the only
customers and we have all the attentions. Once the menu is settled
and delivered, we all happily enjoy our favorites.

シオカラトンボがたくさんみられました。
We saw many dragonflies. This one is called , the common name is white tail skimmer.
お宿に帰りますと、おふろばにこういうメッセージがあります。
「歯磨き粉が歯ブラシにくっつきます。」
すでに歯磨き粉まで付いている便利な使い捨て
歯ブラシですが、説明がちょっと違和感。
'a disposable toothbrush with toothpaste'の方が自然、
と思ったらもう長い名詞となった商品がありました。
"Ready Brush Prepasted Disposable Toothbrush"
国際都市京都でも時々あれれと思わせる英語が目に入ったりしまして、
娘と息子とこう言いたいのかしらねと考えるのが、また楽しみの一つ。
Needs a bit more brushing up on English skills still.
