八丈島一日観光 : A sightseeing day on the island

あら池スノーケリング。降りるのがちょっと大変ですが、

長い内海になっていて小魚がたくさん、キラキラの反射光の塊が目の前を行ったり

来たり。海底では動かないハゼが大も小も岩と同化。サンゴも小さいものがちらほら。

Snorkeling at Araike. It was hard going getting down to the spot. The long small inlet

had many tiny fishes. A mass of glitters moved up, down and sideways

all around me. At the bottom, gobies, big and small, disguised

as rocks. Even corals were growing here and there.

真水が湧いているとかで冷水と温水の差が激しく所々

透明度が0になって焦りました。底土の方が簡単ですが、

こちらも小さいながら岩の造形が面白いので潜りがいはあります。

Freshwater was seeping out of the rock, and it felt really cold now and then. The

visibility became zero at some places, and it was a little bit troublesome.

Sokodo is much easier. However, Araike is compact with

interesting rock formations. That is worth diving for.

     

八丈島で見つけた紅白。見るだけで汗が噴き出す唐辛子と唐辛子を守る精悍な白犬。

Found red and white (auspicious color combination in Japan) on Hachijo Island.

Chillies, make you sweat by just looking at these, and a lean mean guard dog.

洞輪沢(ぼらわざわざ)のサーファー。遠いので点にしか見えません。

Watched a surfer at Borawazawa. He was so far away, he became

a speck on the ocean.

Camping ground cats run away during the day.

     

夜になると寄ってくる。

But, gather around after sunset.

サーモン風コンニャクサラダと草団子風コンニャクサラダ。

クレソンは島産。ジャーマンポテト八丈島版、スパムきゅうり炒め。

A feast at the camping ground. Salmon-looking konjak salad and mugwort-flavored-

dumpling-looking konjak salad, with locally grown watercress. German potato,

arranged in island style, with SPAM and overgrown cucumbers.
